DreamHost Shared Hosting Pricing and Plans – Jun 2026
Designed for individuals and businesses looking to kick-start their online presence, DreamHost Shared hosting offers two main plans: Shared Starter and Shared Unlimited. Both plans have features like a free domain, unlimited traffic, and automated WordPress migrations, making them a great fit for beginners and experienced users.
DreamHost also offers a generous 30-day money-back guarantee, one of the longest I’ve seen in the hosting industry. This means you can try their Shared Hosting risk-free for over three months. You can get a full refund if it doesn’t meet your expectations.
Payment options are flexible, too, with support for major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and even electronic checks. Now, let’s break down the plans to see which fits your needs.
The Shared Starter plan is ideal for launching your first website or working on a small-scale project. It’s incredibly budget-friendly. With this plan, you can host one website and enjoy features like a free domain for the first year, fast SSD storage, and unlimited traffic.
Setting up your site is a breeze with the one-click WordPress installer, and DreamHost even throws in free automated WordPress migrations to simplify moving an existing site.
One standout feature here is the AI Website Builder, which can guide you in creating a professional-looking site without needing technical skills. The plan also includes a free SSL certificate, which secures your site and helps boost its credibility with visitors. However, email hosting is not included in this plan—you’d need to add it separately for as little as $1.67 per month.
Tip If you’re just starting, this plan is enough to get your website up and running. You can always upgrade later as your needs grow.
Shared Unlimited
The Shared Unlimited plan is a step up for those managing multiple websites or needing email hosting. It offers everything in the Starter plan and more.
You get unlimited websites, making it perfect for freelancers, agencies, or anyone with several projects. Email hosting is also included so you can create professional email addresses at your domain at no extra cost.
What I appreciate most about this plan is the flexibility it offers. Unlimited storage, subdomains, and MySQL databases mean you’re not constantly worrying about hitting limits as your online presence grows. Like the Starter plan, this one includes a free SSL certificate and automated daily backups to keep your site secure. Plus, the AI Business Advisor is a nice touch—it provides personalized recommendations to optimize your site for success.
Tip If you’re managing multiple websites or need email hosting, this plan offers excellent value for money. It’s worth considering even if you only have plans to expand.
Overall, both plans offer robust features that make DreamHost Shared Hosting a strong contender in the shared hosting space. With the 30-day money-back guarantee, there’s little risk in trying it out, and the flexible payment options make the signup process straightforward.
Shared Hosting Plans with DreamHost
When it comes to shared hosting solutions, DreamHost is among the best in the business. They boast many great features, including the following:
•Never oversold servers
•Exceptional customer service
•Easy installation of any CMS
•Quality datacenter locations
•Reasonable pricing
•Custom control panel
Of course, they have a lot more to offer as well. The more you learn about DreamHost, the more there is to like.
You’ll also Benefit from the Following Features:
•Shared Packages on Solid State Drives
•24/7 Tech Support Specializing in Shared Hosting
•1 Click Installation Scripts for Common Tools
When evaluating the performance of any hosting provider, I like to go beyond the features and assess the actual infrastructure that supports their services.
For this DreamHost Shared Hosting review, I used WebPageTest to get a closer look at how their shared hosting environment performs.
While synthetic tests like this don’t fully represent real-world performance, they can provide useful insights into the underlying infrastructure powering DreamHost’s shared hosting.
Let’s dive into the results and see what they reveal about DreamHost’s shared hosting capabilities.
One of the standout metrics here is the TTFB, which measures how quickly the server responds to a browser’s request. At 0.78 seconds, DreamHost’s shared hosting performs well, especially for a shared environment where server resources are shared among multiple websites.
This suggests that DreamHost’s servers are optimized for handling requests efficiently, a critical factor for user experience and SEO.
The LCP metric indicates when the largest visible content on a page is fully loaded. At 7.34 seconds, the performance is average for shared hosting but could be improved. This result highlights some limitations of shared hosting infrastructure, where high resource usage from other sites on the same server can impact loading times.
However, it’s worth noting that DreamHost has optimizations, such as SSD storage and caching, which help mitigate some of these delays.
The FCP measures how soon any part of the content becomes visible to the user. At 7.34 seconds, this is a weaker area for DreamHost’s shared hosting. The slower FCP times may reflect the shared nature of the environment, where server resources are not dedicated to any single website.
The CLS score measures the visual stability of a page during loading. DreamHost scores a perfect 0.00, indicating there are no unexpected layout shifts while the page loads. This is an excellent result and reflects solid infrastructure and design practices that prioritize stability.
DreamHost
From the beginner-friendly controls and management tools, to an extensive 30-day money-back guarantee, what’s not to love with Dreamhost? Get top-tier hosting features, and consistently reliable performance.
What These Metrics Say About DreamHost Shared Hosting Infrastructure
DreamHost’s shared hosting infrastructure shows strengths in server responsiveness (TTFB) and layout stability (CLS), which are critical for creating a smooth browsing experience.
However, the LCP and FCP times reveal some of the inherent challenges of shared hosting, where limited server resources can impact overall performance.
That said, DreamHost’s infrastructure includes features like fast SSD storage, IPv6 support, and automated WordPress optimizations, which ensure the platform remains competitive. While shared hosting is not designed for high-traffic or resource-intensive websites, DreamHost’s setup offers reliable performance for small to medium-sized projects.
Level of Support
DreamHost Shared Hosting offers several support channels to ensure you can get the help you need when you need it.
These include live chat support, ticket support, phone callbacks, and an extensive knowledge base. I tried all these options to see how they perform and whether they live up to the promises. Here’s how they stack up:
Live Chat Support
This is my go-to method for quick questions, and I found it very responsive. The live chat is available 24/7 and is easily accessible from the bottom right-hand corner of DreamHost’s website. When I tested it, I was first greeted by a bot called DreamBot, which asked some preliminary questions to narrow down my issue. This step took less than a minute and was surprisingly smooth.
Afterward, I was connected to a human agent named Ferdie within seconds. Ferdie was professional, friendly, and thorough in answering my questions about resource throttling and DreamHost’s custom control panel. I didn’t feel rushed; they even provided helpful links for further reading. This channel offers fast response times and helpful service, making it ideal for urgent queries.
Impression: Live chat is efficient and user-friendly, with real agents quickly available to resolve most issues.
Ticket Support
For more complex issues, DreamHost recommends their ticket support system, which is also available 24/7. You can create a ticket directly from your account panel. I used this method to inquire about billing policies, and while the response time wasn’t as fast as live chat, I received a detailed reply within a few hours.
A knowledgeable agent handled the ticket, addressed all my concerns, and even offered suggestions to optimize my hosting plan. This channel is better suited for problems that don’t require immediate attention but need a more in-depth solution.
Impression: Ticket support is slower than live chat but provides thorough and detailed responses.
Phone Callbacks
DreamHost doesn’t offer traditional phone support but instead provides phone callbacks for a fee. This means you can request a callback from an agent at a time that’s convenient for you. I didn’t use this option since live chat and ticket support met my needs, but it’s worth mentioning for those who prefer verbal communication.
From what I’ve read, users generally find the callback service reliable, though the extra cost might be a drawback for some.
Impression: A decent option if you prefer talking to someone directly, but the fee makes it less appealing compared to free support channels.
Knowledge Base
DreamHost’s knowledge base is a treasure trove of information, offering step-by-step guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting tips for just about every aspect of hosting.
I explored it for common questions about WordPress installations and domain management, and it was both well-organized and easy to navigate.
This is a fantastic self-help resource if you prefer solving issues independently or learning more about the platform.
Impression: A robust, well-organized resource for users who enjoy self-service support.
Customer Support Email
To use the email support option, you must have a DreamHost account. Once logged in, you can send queries through the account panel.
It’s another option for non-urgent issues. The typical response time is similar to ticket support—within a few hours to a day.
Impression: A reliable alternative to tickets for non-urgent queries, though account access is required.

When testing DreamHost Shared Hosting, I wanted to see how easy it was to get started. I decided to examine two key areas: the registration process and the control panel. Here’s how it went.
Registration
Signing up for DreamHost Shared Hosting was surprisingly straightforward. To begin, I went to the DreamHost homepage. From there, I hovered my mouse over “Hosting” in the top menu and clicked “Shared Hosting.”
On the next page, I selected “See All Plans” to view the available options.
DreamHost offers two main plans, and I chose Shared Unlimited. After clicking “Sign up now”, I was taken to a page to choose a domain. The options were:
Choose a domain later
Register a new domain
I already have a domain
Since I wasn’t ready to commit to a domain at this stage, I chose “Choose a domain later” and moved forward.
Next, I was taken to the secure checkout page, where I entered my details:
My email address and name
Phone number
Account use (personal or business)
There were also optional extras, like DreamShield Protection for $3.00/month to monitor my site’s security and Google Workspace for professional email and productivity tools. While these features sounded useful, I opted not to include them for now.
At the bottom of the page, the pricing was clearly displayed. The introductory price for the Shared Unlimited plan was $59.40 for the first year, with a renewal rate of $155.88 annually. This transparency made it easy to understand what I was signing up for.
Finally, I reviewed the terms and clicked “Submit Order”. The whole process was smooth and intuitive, with helpful explanations to clarify my options.
Impression: DreamHost makes the registration process simple and beginner-friendly, with clear instructions and pricing details. I appreciated the flexibility of choosing a domain later and the optional add-ons that were easy to skip if not needed.
Up next, let’s explore the control panel and see how managing a site feels with DreamHost Shared Hosting.
DreamHost Web Panel
After signing up for DreamHost Shared Hosting, I immediately gained access to their custom-built control panel. Unlike the traditional cPanel interface used by many hosting providers, DreamHost has designed their own control panel to simplify website management. Here’s what I discovered while exploring it.
Accessing the control panel is easy. After registration, navigate to panel.dreamhost.com, log in with your email and password, or use the “Sign In with Google” option. DreamHost also supports multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security, which I found reassuring.
Once logged in, the dashboard welcomes you with a clean and organized layout. The left-hand side features a vertical menu with all the tools and settings you’ll need to manage your shared hosting account. It’s a user-friendly design that ensures even beginners can find their way around without much effort.
Control Panel Overview
Here’s what you can expect from DreamHost’s control panel:
Home Section: The first thing you’ll see is the “Get Started” page, which provides links to tutorials, tips, and news about DreamHost services. It’s a nice touch for new users looking to familiarize themselves with the platform.
Websites Section: This is where you’ll manage your domains, DNS settings, MySQL databases, and SSL/TLS certificates. There’s even a built-in file manager for quick edits without needing an FTP client. I found it intuitive to navigate and well-organized, making tasks like setting up databases or enabling SSL simple.
WordPress Tools: If you’re using WordPress (as I was), this section provides quick links to install WordPress, access your site, or add resources like DreamPress. Everything is streamlined, which saves a lot of time.
Email Management: For users on the Shared Unlimited plan, this section lets you create and manage professional email accounts. You can also configure filters, MX records, and more.
Billing & Account: This tab lets you view your active subscriptions, make payments, or update your billing information. DreamHost does a great job of keeping everything transparent here, which I appreciated.
Support Access: The top-right corner includes links to submit a support ticket, access the knowledge base, and view system status updates. These resources are only a click away, which makes troubleshooting easy.
What really stood out to me was how simple it is to manage your website through the control panel. Everything is designed to minimize complexity, from adding domains to installing WordPress with a single click. Even advanced tasks like managing databases or setting up custom DNS records were straightforward.
The panel also includes built-in tools like the File Manager, which I used to upload and edit files directly. It’s a handy feature for quick changes, especially if you’re not using an FTP client.
The vertical menu on the left is thoughtfully arranged, with every section clearly labeled. If you’re ever unsure where to go, a search bar at the top-right corner lets you find what you need in seconds. These small details make the control panel feel accessible, even for first-time users.
Conclusion: Do I Recommend DreamHost Shared Hosting?
After thoroughly testing DreamHost Shared Hosting, I find it delivers exceptional value at $2.59/month. The unlimited bandwidth, automated backups, and WordPress integration make it ideal for bloggers, small businesses, and personal websites.
The custom control panel is refreshingly straightforward, while the 30-day money-back guarantee shows confidence in their service.
Where does it fall short? Large ecommerce sites and resource-heavy applications should look elsewhere, likely at VPS options. But for the target audience — those needing reliable, feature-rich hosting without complexity — DreamHost Shared Hosting hits the sweet spot between affordability and performance.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely, especially for WordPress users and those starting their online journey. The combination of essential features, user-friendly interface, and budget-friendly pricing makes it a smart choice in 2024.
Unreliable Mail server super slow My website is down
Obvious problem with mail servers emails take hours or even days to arrive into mail box and It is not getting any better. Today, November 23, 2021 my website crashed in the morning and It was down for 12 hours.
DreamHost is a website hosting that has recently misled users and by following its invented (often dishonest) rules, it removes important files from the customer's account - from the server - that are part of the domain infrastructure.
DreamHost has been added to the world DBA database with the status "red", ie untrusted and unreliable, which means that this service provider is not recommended and you should rather avoid using this hosting. O-CAI also warns users on its website: o-cai.com
In the details of the entry, we can read: "The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com via the O-CAI Organization purchased the homesfilms.com domain from the dreamHost operator with the server for $ 189 for 3 years. Running a film production project at Homesfilms.com. for a year, various materials were introduced, including 637 .mp4 files, which were to support work and learning on the film production process. After exceeding 1TB of disk space, a special dreamHost algorithm removed 637 files. The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com saw no further sense The development team removed the remaining materials from the account and transferred the domain to another host. DreamHost officially claims that its servers are unlimited, but if you exceed 1TB, it transfers your files to the DreamObjects service and orders you to pay extra, telling everyone that they are backups. DreamHost does not respect someone else's work [...] "
The amy.lokmart@gmail.com user statement says: "You cannot upload .mp4, .mp3, .jpg, .gif, .zip, .rar and other files to the DreamHost server, because if you take up too much space, they will delete everything. This is the worst hosting I've ever used. I really don't recommend using dreamHost. You should really think seriously before anyone wants to use dreamHost. There is no absolute contact from dreamHost. -mail responds the robot - then there are superficial responses as if someone prepared them earlier for a commercial recurring mailing. DreamHost is not honest, because it does not give back all the money - I paid for 3 years, and I used 1 year hosting and I did not receive any refund, for example part of the money, they only return the extra money paid to the account at a later date. If someone intends to use dreamHost, let them know that they will lose TIME AND MONEY, and time is money lust ".
O-CAI tried to contact dreamHost at support@dreamhost.com, but unfortunately all incoming messages are deleted because you are not a customer.
Been with them 3-4 days because of their "100% uptime". Their entire network has been constantly down for almost TWO DAYS. My uptime monitor reports total completely down over the last 2 days of almost FOUR hours. Including for an HOUR last night. Dreamhost is completely unsympathetic that my business is losing money, and has been sending out "gee we're sorry. It will probably be fixed soon" emails. I've been in many hosters, and Dreamhost is the worst by far. I now have to find another hoster, and move my site AGAIN because their service has been pathetic and unreliable. Run as fast and as far as you can from Dreamhost. A completely unreliable and dysfunctional provider.
ADDED: It's now the THIRD day my website is going down. A hoster with unresolved DNS problems taking down my site. This is the most unreliable service I've ever been 9n, and all I've gotten from Dreamhost is "our techs are working on it. Meanwhile, I lose money and clients, and they dont seem to care at all.
I was a Dreamhost customer and had used my Dreamhost account for doing offsite backups for many years. I wasn't backing up excessive amounts of data, but there were many files which were created by me which were irreplaceable. After I had a storage failure at home I went to retrieve the files but they weren't there. Apparently some while before I was sent an email to tell me that I couldn't use their services for backups and that they would delete them. I didn't see this email and so assumed that I would be able retrieve my files. So, I lost about a decade's-worth of my personal files and then when I got understandably very upset, they dumped me as a customer. I also had my Bitcoin wallet backed up there and their servers got hacked and lost all my Bitcoins. Are there any lawyers out there?
Tried their starter plan for a day but I had canceled the plan
While their plan is very attractive to join, I had tried for a day and had huge trouble to set up for my react app and node js app (Yet they did mention this in their documentation but I would like to suggest they should make it more easily to setup). There is a 24/7 support but I found that the support person does not have any technical knowledge, plus already take at leat 10 minutes for just looking up your profile before starting the chat. They seems not really helpful. But I do think they have value for website which uses other technologies.
In conclusion, I believe they should improve their support quality.
I used them for 3 hours, then I have moved to other host, the issues began when I tried to access my site, It was just so slow I couldn't bare with it.
