MacawHost is a budget web hosting, VPS, and dedicated server host running out of New York and Sofia, Bulgaria, with additional dedicated server locations in Amsterdam.

I signed up for a real VPS and a real dedicated server, ran a full benchmark suite on both, and put ticket and live chat support to a genuine technical test.

What I found was a host that punches well above its price on the VPS side, with a few gaps worth knowing about before you commit either plan.

Pros and Cons

Rating Breakdown

To see where MacawHost lands overall, I scored it against the same review methodology used across every host on this site, so these numbers stay tied to what I actually tested rather than general impressions. Full detail on how each parameter is measured is in our hosting rating methodology.

Plans and Pricing

MacawHost’s catalog runs wider than just VPS and dedicated. Alongside those two lines, the full lineup covers Shared Hosting, WordPress Hosting, WooCommerce Hosting, Windows VPS, and Forex VPS, plus application-specific hosting for Magento, Joomla, PrestaShop, Drupal, Laravel, and PHP.

Domain registration, domain transfer, an AI website builder, and free SSL certificates round out the offering.

I didn’t find a free trial on any plan I tested. What MacawHost does offer instead is a tiered money-back guarantee, and the terms differ by product, which is worth knowing before you pick a billing cycle:

• Shared, WordPress, and WooCommerce Hosting: full refund within 14 days of activation
• VPS Hosting: full refund within 14 days of activation
• Dedicated Servers: full refund within 7 days of activation, less than half the VPS window

Payment runs through Credit Card via Stripe or BTC and other cryptocurrency. I didn’t see PayPal or bank transfer as options during checkout.

One policy detail I’d flag for every reader, not just as a footnote. MacawHost’s billing terms state that if a VPS or Dedicated Server renewal payment isn’t received within 24 hours of the due date, all data tied to that service gets permanently removed, including every account, backup, and related file, and a dedicated server can be fully dismantled.

Shared hosting customers get a five-day grace window after expiration before the same thing happens.

That 24-hour window on VPS and dedicated plans is considerably tighter than what many hosts give you, so keeping your payment method current matters more here than it does on a lot of competing platforms. If you register or transfer a free domain as part of a plan, know that canceling later means that domain’s registration cost gets charged separately.

For getting the best value, annual billing is where the real savings sit. Every VPS tier carries a 30% discount over monthly pricing when billed yearly, and quarterly and semi-annual options split the difference if you’re not ready to commit for a full year.

If you’re choosing between VPS and dedicated purely on price, remember that dedicated servers get a shorter refund window to test in, so plan to run your workload and stress-test it within that first week rather than easing into it.

Performance

Before running a single benchmark, it’s worth placing both machines inside MacawHost’s actual lineup, because the numbers that follow only mean something in that context.

The Linux VPS range runs four tiers, from L-Spark at $3.49/mo up to L-Ultra at $24.49/mo, and I tested the top of that range:

The dedicated server lineup is a much longer list, 14 servers total, spread across Sofia, Bulgaria, and Amsterdam, Netherlands, and ranging from $49/mo for an entry-level Xeon E3 box up to $329/mo for the two most powerful configurations on offer.

The server I tested was a Pre-Built Dedicated Server built on dual Intel Xeon Gold 6138 processors with 256 GB of RAM, which lines up directly with the P-Gold 6138 plan on MacawHost’s own pricing page, tied for the most expensive dedicated server they sell:

That positioning matters for how you should read the results ahead. I tested the strongest VPS plan MacawHost offers and one of its two strongest dedicated servers, so if you’re eyeing L-Spark or a $49/mo entry dedicated box instead, expect meaningfully less headroom than what I found here, not the same numbers at a smaller price. I’ll call out where that scaling matters as I go through each test.

Here’s what I provisioned for this round of testing:

• HA-MacawVPS-US: Linux VPS, L-Ultra plan, 8 vCPU (AMD EPYC 4545P), 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 150 GB NVMe SSD, AlmaLinux 10.0, New York Metro City, USA, $24.49/mo (billed annually)
• HA-MacawDedicated-BG: Pre-Built Dedicated Server, 2x Intel Xeon Gold 6138 (40 cores / 80 threads total), 256 GB DDR4 RAM, 1 TB SSD, AlmaLinux 10.2, Sofia, Bulgaria, $329/mo equivalent configuration

One thing jumped out before I even got to the benchmarks. The VPS runs on newer AMD EPYC silicon, while the dedicated server’s Xeon Gold 6138 chips date back to 2017. That’s not unusual for the dedicated server market, where bare metal inventory turns over more slowly than virtualized fleets, but it sets up an interesting dynamic in the results.

Raw core count strongly favors the dedicated box, but per-core performance doesn’t always follow the same pattern. I’ll break down exactly where that split shows up as we go through CPU, memory, disk, network, and stress testing for each machine.

VPS Performance

The L-Ultra plan is the top of MacawHost’s four-tier VPS lineup, and it’s the plan I’d expect a small business running a live website, an application, or a client project to land on once they outgrow shared hosting.

Every number below gets read through that lens: not “is this fast” in the abstract, but “what kind of business could this server actually support without falling over.”

CPU Performance

Throughput scaled 7.6x when I moved from one thread to eight, close to the theoretical 8x ceiling a truly isolated server should hit.

That number is the real story here, more than the raw speed. It tells me MacawHost isn’t packing this box with more tenants than the hardware can support.

If it were, other accounts competing for the same cores would drag that scaling number down well below 7x.

For a reader, this translates directly into a buying decision. If you’re running a single-threaded workload like a typical WordPress site or a Node.js API handling one request at a time, that 0.43 ms average latency means pages render fast and checkout flows don’t lag under normal load.

If your business runs something that can actually spread across cores (a build server, a data processing job, a small SaaS backend handling concurrent requests), the near-linear scaling means you’re getting the eight cores you paid for, not a fraction of them shared with strangers.

Memory Performance

If your business runs a database or caches sessions and product data in memory (Redis, Memcached, or an in-app cache layer), this number sets the ceiling on how fast that data moves once it’s already loaded.

At 9 to 10 GB/sec, memory access is fast enough that it won’t be the reason your checkout page hesitates or your dashboard takes a beat to load.

Put plainly, if a customer complains your site feels slow, this server’s memory speed rules that out as the cause. The bottleneck, if there is one, will be somewhere else in your application.

Disk I/O

The sequential numbers matter if your business moves large files, backups, media exports, that kind of traffic.

But the random 4K figure is the one that actually predicts how your site or app feels to a real customer, because that’s the access pattern a database uses every time someone loads a product page, submits a form, or logs in.

Just under 33,000 IOPS in both directions puts this plan well ahead of what budget VPS hosting normally delivers.

For an online store, that number is the difference between a checkout that confirms instantly and one that makes a customer wonder if their card was charged twice. For a content site with a growing comment section or user accounts, it means the database keeps up as the site grows instead of becoming the reason pages slow down six months in.

Network Speed

I ran this twice against the same test server to rule out a lucky result, and zero packet loss held both times.

Packet loss is the number that actually predicts real-world reliability, since it’s what causes a video call to stutter or an API request to time out and retry. Two clean runs in a row is a stronger signal than one fast download number.

The upload speed sitting right at 950 Mbps in both tests lines up with MacawHost’s stated 1 Gbps network cap on this plan, so that’s an honest ceiling, not a fluke. What this means for a reader depends heavily on the business.

A blog, a marketing site, or a store selling to visitors is almost entirely download-bound from the server’s side (serving pages and images out), and this server handles that with room to spare. A business built around user uploads (a photo-sharing app, a video platform, a backup service) will feel that 1 Gbps upload ceiling as a real limit once traffic grows, and should plan for that before it becomes a problem.

Stress Test

This is the test that answers a question every business owner actually cares about: what happens when traffic spikes.

A product launch, a press mention, a Black Friday sale, all of these push CPU, memory, and disk at the same time, not one at a time the way a normal benchmark tests them.

Three straight minutes of all three under load with zero failures and zero flagged metrics means this server held its footing under exactly that kind of pressure. That’s the number that should give a reader confidence their site won’t go down during the one week of the year it matters most.

Overall Verdict on VPS Performance

For a business deciding between MacawHost’s VPS tiers, the L-Ultra plan behaves like real dedicated resources rather than an oversold shared box, and it held up cleanly under simulated peak load.

Database-driven sites and stores will benefit most from the disk I/O numbers here, while businesses built around heavy uploads should account for the 1 Gbps ceiling before scaling into it. This is a plan built to support a real, growing business, not just a personal project.

Dedicated Server Performance

The Pre-Built Dedicated Server I tested runs on dual Intel Xeon Gold 6138 processors with 256 GB of RAM, matching MacawHost’s P-Gold 6138 plan at $329/mo, one of the two most expensive servers on their entire dedicated lineup.

You’re probably choosing dedicated hardware for a reason beyond speed: compliance requirements, license terms that demand no shared tenancy, or an application that needs guaranteed resources with nothing else on the machine.

The results below matter most when read against that reason, not just against the VPS numbers.

CPU Performance

Here’s the number every reader comparing these two products needs to see before paying roughly 13 times more for a dedicated over the top VPS plan.

Single-thread performance came in at less than a quarter of what the VPS delivered. The Xeon Gold 6138 is 2017-era hardware, and its lower per-core clock speed shows up directly here.

If your business runs an application that processes requests mostly one at a time (most WordPress sites, most small business web apps), that single-thread number matters more than the 40 physical cores on the spec sheet, and the far cheaper VPS actually processes that kind of work faster.

Where those 40 cores earn their keep is running many things side by side rather than one thing fast. A business hosting several client sites, running parallel batch jobs, or operating multiple isolated containers gets real value from that core count.

But thread fairness got noticeably worse under full load (a standard deviation five times higher than the VPS test, with max latency spiking to 158.74 ms), a sign of real contention once all 80 threads were active together.

That means the “more cores” story only pays off if your workload is genuinely built to use many cores at once, not just theoretically capable of it.

Memory Performance

This is the result that should reset expectations about what “more RAM” actually buys you. Despite having 16 times the memory of the VPS, and despite running on hardware with no other tenant on it at all, raw memory speed came in slower than the VPS on both read and write.

The likely cause is the dual-socket layout. On a two-processor server, memory attached to the other CPU’s socket takes longer to reach than memory local to the processor doing the work, and a single-threaded test doesn’t route around that.

For a business owner, the lesson is that capacity and speed are two separate purchases. This server can hold a database or an in-memory cache many times larger than the VPS can, which matters if your data set is genuinely large.

But if your business just needs memory to move fast rather than to hold a lot, more RAM alone doesn’t deliver that, and this test proves it.

Disk I/O

This is the finding I’d put in front of any reader before they commit to this plan. Sequential read came in at roughly one-tenth of the VPS’s NVMe speed, and random IOPS ran about 25% lower too.

MacawHost’s own product page lists “1 x 1 TB SSD” without naming NVMe, and these results point strongly to standard SATA storage rather than the NVMe drives used on the VPS line. That’s a real hardware difference, not noise in the test.

What this means for a business: If your reason for choosing dedicated is isolation, compliance, or a licensing requirement, this trade-off might be acceptable.

But if your reason is “I need this to be fast,” a database-heavy application, a busy store, a site with real user traffic, this test shows the far cheaper VPS plan will actually respond to that traffic faster than MacawHost’s flagship dedicated server. That’s an uncomfortable finding for anyone assuming the bigger price tag automatically buys the bigger performance.

Network Speed

This is where the dedicated server’s price starts to make sense. Both runs (tested from Sofia, so not against the same reference point as the VPS’s New Jersey test) came back with upload and download both around 9.3 Gbps, roughly ten times the VPS’s upload ceiling, and zero packet loss in both directions on both runs.

A business built around moving large amounts of data outward, backup services, media delivery, syncing large datasets to other systems, gets a real, measurable upgrade here that has nothing to do with CPU or disk.

This is the one category in this entire test where paying for dedicated hardware clearly shows up in the numbers.

Stress Test

Even with memory workers pushing 187 GB of active load at once, nothing failed and nothing came back flagged as unreliable.

For a business running something that genuinely needs that scale (a large internal system, a data warehouse, a heavily used multi-tenant application), this confirms the server holds together under real, sustained pressure, not just a quick burst test.

Stability at this scale is the actual product being sold at this price point, even where raw speed didn’t win.

Overall Verdict on Dedicated Server Performance

The dedicated server earns its price on capacity and network throughput, not raw speed. A business that needs to move large volumes of data, or that needs guaranteed isolation for compliance or licensing reasons, gets real value here.

But a business choosing this tier purely to go faster than the VPS will be disappointed, since the CPU runs slower per core and the disk trails the VPS by a wide margin across every measurement. This plan is a match for capacity and isolation needs, not a straightforward upgrade in speed.

Overall Verdict on Performance

The clearest finding across both products is that MacawHost’s top VPS plan outperforms its flagship dedicated server on the two metrics that most directly affect how fast a site or application feels to a real customer: CPU response time and disk I/O. That’s not a knock against the dedicated server, it’s a sign that the two products are built for different jobs.

A growing business running a store, a content site, or a customer-facing app will likely get better performance for less money on the VPS line.

A business that needs guaranteed isolation, heavy outbound data transfer, or capacity that a VPS simply can’t offer has good reason to pay for dedicated hardware, provided the buying decision is made for those reasons and not for speed alone. Either way, the resources MacawHost delivers matched what it promised on paper, and the zero-failure stress results on both machines suggest whichever plan a reader picks, it should hold up when real traffic arrives.

Ease of Use

A VPS provider lives or dies on what happens after the sale. Anyone can put a clean pricing page together, but the real test is whether signing up, finding your server, and actually managing it feels like something a non-technical buyer could do without opening a support ticket.

I went through MacawHost’s full flow start to finish: picking a plan, configuring the server, checking out, and then landing in both the client dashboard and the server management panel to see what tools were actually on offer.

1. Registration

MacawHost doesn’t have a separate sign-up step. There’s no “create an account” button anywhere on the homepage. Instead, registration happens as part of buying a plan, which is common among VPS hosts but still worth flagging up front for anyone expecting a traditional sign-up form first.

I started from the homepage and went to VPS Hosting in the main nav, which opens a dropdown with three options: Linux VPS Hosting, Windows VPS Hosting, and Forex VPS Hosting. I picked Linux, since that’s the most common starting point for developers and the plan I wanted to test.

The Linux VPS landing page leads with AMD EPYC CPUs, NVMe SSDs, and DDoS protection, plans starting at $3.49 a month, and a 14-day money-back guarantee stated right in the hero. Clicking Get Started doesn’t take you anywhere new.

It just scrolls you down the same page to the plan table, which is a small but useful bit of design since it keeps you on the page instead of bouncing you through an extra click.

Four Linux plans are on offer, all billed with a toggle between monthly and yearly rates:

All four plans include unlimited bandwidth, and the yearly rate marks a 30% saving over monthly billing on every tier. I picked L-Ultra since I wanted enough headroom to run a proper benchmark pass later in this review.

Choosing a plan drops you onto a Configure page, and this is where MacawHost asks you to make several decisions before you ever see a checkout form:

• Billing cycle: Monthly, Quarterly (10% off), Semi-Annually (20% off), or Annually (30% off)

• Server location: New York Metro City, USA, or Sofia, Bulgaria, both at no extra cost
• Number of IPs: starts at 1, with each additional IP priced at $5, $10, or $15
• Advanced DDoS protection: 500Gbps protection, included by default
• Web hosting panel: None, cPanel Pro at $36.95/mo (30 accounts), or cPanel Admin at $54.95/mo (5 accounts)

• Operating system: a genuinely wide spread, covering AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, and Fedora across multiple version releases

That server location list is the one thing I’d flag early. Two regions is a thin footprint next to hosts that offer a dozen or more, and if your audience sits in Asia-Pacific, South America, or the Middle East, neither New York nor Sofia is going to give you great latency.

It’s a real limitation for anyone outside North America or Europe, not just a minor detail.

The cPanel pricing is the other thing that jumped out. cPanel Pro alone costs more per month than the L-Ultra server it’s running on. If you need a control panel for managing multiple hosting accounts on your VPS, budget for that as a genuinely separate cost, not an add-on.

A running total sits in a sidebar the entire time, updating as you change options, which made it easy to see exactly what I was paying before committing to anything.

Clicking Continue took me to Review & Checkout, where account creation, billing details, and payment all live on a single page. I filled in personal information (name, email, phone), a billing address, and set a password, then chose between Credit Card via Stripe or crypto for payment.

One detail I want to flag for security-minded readers: the password field only requires 5 characters minimum. That’s a low bar for an account tied to a live server, and I’d recommend going well past it.

Two things I didn’t expect: the checkout page defaulted my phone country code to +971 and my billing country to United Arab Emirates, regardless of where I was actually signing up from, which meant an extra couple of clicks to correct.

And there’s a mailing list opt-in toggled on by default, so if you don’t want promotional emails, remember to switch it off before placing the order.

After clicking Place Order, I had a confirmation email in my inbox within seconds and was dropped straight into the dashboard with no additional verification step.

What I thought: This is a fast checkout with no forced account-creation detour, and the running price summary is a genuinely helpful touch. But the two-location limit and the weak password floor are real considerations, not nitpicks, and the cPanel pricing needs to be budgeted separately from the server cost itself.

2. Dashboard/Client Area

Landing in the dashboard for the first time, what I saw was a fairly standard billing-panel layout: a left sidebar with account details and shortcuts, and a main area built around counters and cards.

Across the top sit four numbers: Services, Domains, Unpaid Invoices, and Tickets. Below that, an Active Products/Services panel lists everything on the account, each with a Manage button.

My Linux VPS showed up here immediately alongside a pre-existing dedicated server on the account, both marked Active. Further down, a Recent Support Tickets panel and a Register a New Domain widget round out the page, along with a Recent News box that had nothing in it during my test.

Nothing here needed explaining. I didn’t open a knowledge base article or hover over a single tooltip to understand what any of it did. The layout follows the same conventions most billing portals use (services list, invoices, ticket count), so if you’ve used any hosting provider’s client area before, this one won’t ask you to relearn anything.

That familiarity cuts both ways. It’s easy to use precisely because it doesn’t try anything new, and it reads as fairly plain and utilitarian rather than a portal MacawHost designed with any real personality of its own.

The path from dashboard to server was one click. I clicked Manage next to my Linux VPS, since that’s the option that actually matters for a VPS buyer who wants to get their hands on the machine they just paid for, not just check an invoice.

What I thought: The dashboard doesn’t need a manual, and that’s the whole point of a client area. It’s not memorable, but it’s never confusing, which for a billing portal is the right trade-off to make.

3. Server Management

Clicking Manage opens a Product Details page, and this is where MacawHost’s setup earns some real credit.

Instead of sending you off to a separate login for your VPS control panel, the page embeds a full Virtualizor panel directly on the same screen, right below your billing information.

The top half of the page covers account-level actions, listed down the left sidebar:

• Change Password
• Start VPS
• Reboot VPS
• Stop VPS
• Poweroff VPS
• Upgrade/Downgrade
• Request Cancellation
• Enduser Panel (a link out to the full standalone Virtualizor interface)

Below that sits the embedded panel itself, complete with its own power controls (start, restart, stop, console access) right at the top, so basic actions don’t require digging into a menu.

The panel is organized into six tabs:

• Overview: disk usage, bandwidth consumed, live CPU graph, and network speed, all visible the moment the page loads
• Graphs: a more detailed bandwidth history with a date range picker and a monthly In/Out chart
• Settings: hostname changes, password resets, SSH key management, and VNC access
• Install: OS reinstallation tools
• Tasks and Logs: an activity history for the server
• Firewall: firewall plan management

I want to flag two things here that a reader evaluating this host should know before they buy. First, the Firewall tab showed “No Firewall Plans” on my server, meaning a dedicated firewall isn’t provisioned automatically even though 500Gbps DDoS protection is included at signup.

If you need port-level firewall rules out of the box, you’ll need to add a firewall plan separately after your server is live. Second, two additional tools, Networking and Rescue Mode, aren’t shown as tabs at all. They only appear inside a small unlabeled dropdown icon next to Firewall.

I found them by accident while exploring the panel, and I’d guess plenty of buyers wouldn’t think to click that icon.

What I thought: The embedded panel is the standout part of this whole review section. Getting live resource graphs, hostname and SSH key controls, and power management without leaving the billing portal saves real clicks compared to hosts that force you into a separate login. The firewall gap and the buried Networking/Rescue Mode tools are the kind of rough edges that don’t ruin the experience, but they’re exactly what someone new to VPS management could miss without a review like this one pointing them out.

4. Checking Consistency Across Other Products

One question a VPS management panel this solid raises is whether MacawHost put the same care into its other product lines, or whether Virtualizor is doing most of the heavy lifting here.

My account had a Pre-Built Dedicated Server sitting alongside the VPS, so I opened its management page to find out.

The interface is completely different from Virtualizor, built around a Dedicated Server Management card of its own, but it holds up:

• Power Controls: Power On, Reboot, and Power Off, all one click away with no submenu to dig through
• Server Label and Main IP: visible immediately, next to live Online and Reachable status indicators
• Hardware Configuration: exact CPU, RAM, and disk specs listed directly on the page, no need to check an invoice

• Additional IP Addresses: its own section, even when nothing is assigned
• OS Reinstall Request: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Windows, and VMware ESXi, each with a version dropdown, plus an Other option for anything not listed
• Network Traffic: a 24-hour daily graph and a 30-day monthly graph, both split into inbound and outbound

One detail I want to call out for anyone on a dedicated plan specifically: OS Reinstall Request doesn’t reinstall anything on its own.

The page says so directly, submitting it opens a technical support ticket instead of triggering an automatic wipe. I’d rather see that honesty built into the interface than a button that implies instant action while quietly queuing a ticket behind the scenes.

What I thought: MacawHost didn’t build one good panel and leave everything else generic. The dedicated server management page gives you the same real information (live status, exact specs, traffic history) as the VPS panel, just wrapped in a different interface suited to different hardware. For anyone deciding between a VPS and a dedicated server on this host, that consistency is a genuine point in MacawHost’s favor.

Overall Verdict on Ease of Use

MacawHost’s sign-up and checkout process is quick and transparent about pricing at every step, though the two-location limit, the 5-character password minimum, and cPanel pricing that outpaces the server itself are all things buyers should weigh before committing.

The dashboard needs no learning curve, and the embedded Virtualizor panel is the real strength of this setup, putting server graphs, hostname and SSH controls, and power management on the same page as your billing account.

The firewall not being enabled by default and the Networking and Rescue Mode tools hiding behind an unlabeled dropdown are the two friction points I’d want a first-time buyer to know about going in.

Level of Support

MacawHost gives customers three main ways to reach support: a ticket system with department routing (Sales, Technical Support, Billing, and Policy & Compliance), a live chat widget available site-wide, and a self-service Knowledge Base, alongside an Announcements page, a Downloads section, and a Network Status page for checking service issues.

I tested the two channels most people reach for first when something is actually broken: ticket support and live chat, and I asked both a real technical question rather than something answerable by pasting a help article.

Ticket Support

I opened the ticket system from my dashboard, which took me to a page asking me to choose a department before anything else.

Four options were laid out with short descriptions:

• Sales: pre-sales questions, quotes, upgrades
• Technical Support: hosting issues, server problems, website errors, connectivity, configuration
• Billing: invoices, payments, renewals, refunds
• Policy & Compliance: abuse reports, spam, malware, copyright

I picked Technical Support. The ticket form that followed did some of the work for me. My account and email were pre-filled, and the department was already selected.  For the Related Product, clicking it gave me a dropdown with all the products in my account and I selected the Linux VPS.

I set Priority to High, gave it a subject, and typed my question in a full formatting editor (bold, italic, headers, links, lists, code blocks, and quote formatting were all available), with an option to attach a file up to 2MB.

A Knowledgebase Suggestions panel sat in the sidebar, ready to surface related articles as I typed, a genuinely useful touch for anyone whose question might already have a documented answer.

I submitted my ticket at 12:29 pm. The confirmation was instant: a ticket number (#QZK-27), a note that a confirmation email had gone out, and the ticket already showing under Your Recent Tickets in the sidebar before I’d even left the page.

The reply came from Melvin J.M., listed with the title Systems Administrator, at 12:43 pm, a 14-minute turnaround on a High-priority ticket. The answer itself held up. Melvin correctly scoped the included DDoS protection to Layer 3/4 (SYN floods, UDP floods, protocol-based attacks), stated plainly that it does not cover Layer 7 attacks like HTTP floods, and offered two real next steps: using Cloudflare, or getting help configuring LiteSpeed or Nginx directly.

He also answered the part of my question about port exposure without me having to ask again: on VPS hosting, every port is open by default except port 25.

That’s a specific, useful detail, and it connects directly to something I flagged during Ease of Use testing, where the Firewall tab showed no plan active. This confirms it’s a real security consideration for buyers, not just a display quirk in the panel.

What I thought: This was a complete answer delivered inside a reasonable window, from a named specialist rather than an unnamed rep. Nothing about it felt templated, and I didn’t need a follow-up to get what I needed.

Live Chat

The live chat widget sits in the bottom corner of every page, so reaching a person doesn’t require digging through a support menu first. I opened with my question about kernel module support on the VPS.

The first reply landed in about 2 minutes: “it is KVM Virtualization, custom OS and kernels are not supported on VPS hosting.” Fast, and it confirmed the virtualization type I needed to know, but it didn’t actually answer what I’d asked.

I wasn’t asking about custom kernels or custom OS images. I was asking about loading a single existing kernel module through modprobe, a much narrower and very different question on KVM. That gap is exactly why I pushed with a follow-up.

The follow-up is where the pace changed. After I asked specifically about modprobe and named two real modules (wireguard and tcp_bbr), 12 minutes passed with no reply at all.

Then Sam, the agent, sent “give me a moment,” and 4 minutes after that came the actual answer, 16 minutes total from question to resolution.

Sam had checked with the technical team in the meantime, and the corrected answer walked back the earlier response: loading an existing kernel module is possible on their KVM VPS hosting. Sam added a genuinely useful caveat too, recommending against relying on kernel-level configuration on a VPS in general, and pointing toward a Dedicated Server for anyone whose application depends on it, since compatibility and stability risks are real at that level.

What I thought: The first answer was fast but not fully accurate for what I’d actually asked, and getting the correct answer meant waiting eight times longer than the initial response and having the agent escalate internally.

The upside is that the escalation worked. Sam came back with a technically sound answer and honest advice about when a VPS isn’t the right tool at all, rather than just telling me what I wanted to hear.

Overall Verdict on Level of Support

MacawHost’s ticket support was the stronger of the two channels in this test, delivering a specific and accurate answer from a named Systems Administrator in 14 minutes without needing a second message.

Live chat was faster on the surface, but the first response missed the actual question, and getting a correct answer meant waiting 16 minutes for the agent to escalate internally.

Both channels got me to the right answer eventually, and the willingness to check with a technical team rather than guess is a real point in MacawHost’s favor, but anyone with a genuinely technical question should expect chat to take longer than its opening response time suggests.

Do we recommend MacawHost hosting?

Yes, particularly for the VPS line, with a couple of conditions worth knowing before you buy.

What stood out most across this testing wasn’t any single benchmark number. It was how consistently MacawHost’s VPS plans outperformed expectations set by the price tag, fast NVMe storage, clean CPU scaling, zero packet loss across repeated network tests, and a support ticket that came back in 14 minutes with a complete, accurate answer from a named specialist. The embedded Virtualizor panel meant I never had to leave the billing dashboard to manage the actual server, which saved real time during setup.

MacawHost is the right fit for someone running a growing website, store, or application who wants server resources that behave like what’s advertised rather than an oversold shared box, and who’s comfortable managing their own VPS without a lot of hand-holding.

It’s also a reasonable pick for anyone who wants dedicated hardware specifically for the isolation or the strong outbound network speed, both of which held up well in testing.

It’s not the right fit for anyone who needs a broad selection of data center regions, since two VPS locations is a real constraint if your audience sits outside North America or Europe. It’s also not the best choice for someone specifically shopping for raw speed at the top dedicated server tier, since the far cheaper VPS plan actually beat it on CPU response and disk performance in this test.

Anyone leaning toward MacawHost’s dedicated line should be buying it for capacity and isolation, not for outright speed.
